Grace: It's Our Way of Life

As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the Scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ.

Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome
because we are only here by Grace.

Sermon, Pentecost XIX, Proper 22, Year B, 7 October 2012 - Following Jesus and Welcome as Stewardship

If we are to be kingdom people, followers of Jesus, then we have to deal with Scripture and the teachings of Jesus, which may sometimes have to trump our feelings and thoughts, even our beliefs. Today we deal with divorce and the death of the "one flesh" that is born in our marriage as a creative act by God through two people, as a beginning of considering following Jesus.

It is to this call that we are called at the end of the sermon to commit to following Jesus. It will change you and that is the Good News.

Following the sermon is a stewardship talk by Mr. John Weeman, a member and a man of God gifted for Welcome.

The Collect

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
