Grace: It's Our Way of Life

As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the Scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ.

Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome
because we are only here by Grace.

Sermon, Advent II, Year A, 8 December 2013 - Learning to Listen to and Speak as Prophets PLUS a visit from Saint Nicholas

John the Baptist Preaching - Giovanni Battista Tiepolo

Sermon on the Prophets.  Who do you let preach the word of God to you?  Who do you listen to? Who do you trust that much?  And, since we have the Spirit of the Living God indwelling us from our baptism, when do you hear and listen to the word of God and speak it?  These two questions are at the heart of our preparation for Christ.

PLUS we had our annual visit from Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Smyna, who tells the kids about who he was and why he still matters to us today.  Very funny to hear his interactions with the kids.  A special thanks to Jeff Wescott for playing Bishop Nicholas for the last ten years for Grace, even on his birthday!

The Collect

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
