Grace: It's Our Way of Life

As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the Scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ.

Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome
because we are only here by Grace.

Sermon, Lent V, Year C, 2010

Sermon on the dinner held in John's Gospel between the Raising of Lazarus and the Last Supper. This little text, which includes Mary washing Jesus' feet, seems obvious, but the meaning packed into it is profound and echoes out of the raising story and into the Last Supper.

In particular the sermon looks at the types represented by Martha, Lazarus, and Mary. But we are all one of the three at some time. I am a Lazarus who works as a Martha, but every now and again Mary weeps in me.
