Grace: It's Our Way of Life

As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the Scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ.

Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome
because we are only here by Grace.

Sermon, Lent II, Year C, 2010

Jesus laments over Jerusalem in the Gospel of Luke, and it is one of those texts that opens the door to an interesting truth. We are not called to a temple faith. In the sermon, I offer the deal to return to a temple faith, but in truth I love the New Covenant in Christ. We are God's not due to our ability to keep laws or kill bulls, but because God is faithful in Christ to bring us to God's own self. We are the Temple of the Spirit, so there is no temple to go to, no tax to pay, no sacrifice except one of praise and thanksgiving, as our liturgy reminds us weekly. Amen. That is pretty good news for Lent.
